Hariharapura Waiting
For You
Quite often there are articles in newspapers and magazines about places of various
interests like holidaying, spiritual, retreats or quiet places in nature (sides
of rivers, mountains or forests) etc.,
To experience of all the above, you have to visit and stay for one or two days,
Hariharapura, a small village and agraharam of yesteryears. This place is about
19kms from Sringeri, Koppa Taluk and Chikmagalur Dist in Karnataka State and is
about 25 kms from Agumbe, in western ghats, the second highest rain falling place
in India. The village has about 800 houses and a population of 7000 people, whose
main engagement is cultivation of Areca and paddy, leading a slow and leisurely
pace of life.
Just on the banks of the perennial river Thunga, a very ancient, of over 1000 year’s
lineage, Adi Shankaracharya Peetam and Sree Math are situated. There are shrines
of Sri Sharadambal, installed by Adi Shankaracharya and the shrine of Sri Lakshminarasimha
Swamy, originally done pujas by Sage Agastya.
